Lands & Nations

A guide to the Lands plugin — how claiming, banks, upkeep, and tiers work, how lands combine into nations, and what happens to a nation that loses a war of vassalage.

1Lands

  1. Run /lands create <name> to found your land free of charge. The first chunk is free.
  2. The first paid chunk costs $3,000, and every chunk after that rises by a fixed $500 — so the larger your land gets, the more each expansion costs.
  3. When naming your land you can use a hex code to set its color on the world map, e.g. <#FF5555>ExampleLand. Minecraft only recognizes a specific set of hex colors.
  4. Your land has its own shared bank, separate from any individual's personal balance. Claim costs and upkeep are withdrawn from this bank, and any member can deposit into it.
  5. If the bank can't cover a cost, it falls back to the owner's personal balance.
  6. Every land pays weekly upkeep on its claimed chunks, at $100 per chunk.
  7. Larger lands cost more to maintain. Before you claim aggressively, make sure your land has the income to support it.
  8. You can rent or sell sub-areas of your land to other players without adding them as trusted members.
  9. Lands unlock new tiers — Settlement, Village, Town, Province, Land — by hitting member and wealth thresholds. Each tier grants more claimable chunks and member slots, for a modest increase in upkeep.
  10. You can own only one land at a time, and be a trusted member in one additional land beyond that.

2Nations

  1. Multiple lands can form a nation for $75,000.
  2. When a land joins a nation it stops paying upkeep to the server and instead pays tax directly to the nation — the nation's leader sets that rate, up to $200 per chunk.
  3. In turn, the nation owes its own upkeep to the server, at $100 per chunk across the combined total of its lands.
  4. Relations between nations are publicly tracked in-game.
  5. Like lands, nations can develop into higher tiers — Federation, Nation, Empire — each unlocking additional claiming capacity for every land in the nation.

3Vassals

  1. A nation that loses a war of vassalage is absorbed by the winning nation as restricted members.
  2. Vassals pay taxes to their overlord that can run higher than normal nation taxes.
  3. The only way to become independent again is to declare and win a war against your overlord — see Warfare §8.
Warfare is the only time claimed land can be entered or captured by an enemy. Read the Warfare document before you get into a conflict.
